The Green Bay Packers have brought in cornerback Trevon Diggs from the waivers on Wednesday as the team added an important piece to a defensive secondary in need of some help.

Diggs was released by the Dallas Cowboys on Tuesday, with coach Brian Schottenheimer saying that he was let go for several reasons. The two-time Pro Bowl star wanted to stay in Maryland after beating the Washington Commanders on Christmas Day, but saw his request rejected. He then failed to to join the team for the flight back to Dallas, which led to tensions between the parties.

The Packers, who have already qualified for the playoffs with a week to spare, but have seen their secondary be decimated by injuries. Both Zayne Anderson (ankle) and Nate Dobbs (knee) were placed on injury reserve on Wednesday, while Kamal Hadden (ankle) had already been placed on IR the day before.

Green Bay's head coach Matt LaFleur confirmed that several starters will not see the field on Sunday away to the Minnesota Vikings. This is not surprising, since the Packers have already locked up seventh spot in the NFC and go into the game with nothing of note to play for.

Diggs was a second-round pick for the Cowboys in the 2020 NFL Draft, and signed an extension in July of 2023. However, since that signing, he has only taken part in 21 of the 50 games, going through several injuries. That included missing practically the whole 2023 season after suffering a torn ACL just two games in.

The 27-year-old was on injured reserve on October 25th due to a supposed right knee problem. He also ended up with a concussion in an "accident at his home" shortly after a loss to the Carolina Panthes.

Diggs played in two recent games for the Cowboys, with seven tackles completed across a defeat to the Los Angeles Chargers and a win over the New York Giants.

In eight games played this year - six of which he started - Diggs has a total 25 tackles. Dallas will face the Giants again on Sunday as both teams' seasons will come to an end.

Through 66 games in the NFL all-time, Diggs has recorded 20 interceptions, 63 defended passes, and 240 tackles. He partook in the Pro Bowl in 2021 and 2022.
