Sweden have set a new record win on the opening day of the 2026 Bandy World Championship by beating Hungary 34-0 in Pori, Finland.

Humiliatingly for Hungary, Sweden eclipsed their own record of 31-0, which they set when the two met at the World Championship just a year ago.

The difference-maker between the 2025 and 2026 meetings was William Arvidsson, who scored nine goals on his World Championship debut, in which he took just 22 seconds to break the deadlock. His teammate Christoffer Edlund was next best for Sweden, netting seven times.

The efficiency from the Swedes was just as remarkable, as the Yellow & Blue scored exactly 17 times in each half against the hapless Hungarians, en route to the 34-0 final score.

Naturally, Sweden sit top and Hungary are bottom of the six-team standings, while elsewhere on the opening day, hosts Finland beat United States 14-1 and Norway hammered Netherlands 21-0.

Sweden won the title in most recent editions in 2025 and 2023, taking their tally of gold medals to 14, and they last failed to at least make the final in 2011.
