The Milwaukee Brewers defeated the Chicago Cubs in Game 5 on Saturday to advance to their first National League Championship Series for the first time since 2018.

Milwaukee will be one series away from reaching the World Series for the first time since 1982 as they'll take on the Los Angeles Dodgers for the pennant.

And, for the league's No. 1 team and their fans, hopefully, another chance at winning their first-ever World Series.

It is their only win from this season where all of their runs were on solo home run.

Full game recap

Brewers star catcher William Contreras got things started in the bottom of the first inning with a solo home run off starting pitcher Drew Pomeranz

The Cubs starter only went a single inning before they brought in Colin Rea for the next 2.2 innings of relief.

Chicago would return the favour the very next inning.

Seiya Suzuki launched a solo shot of his own and his third of the postseason to tie it all up 1-1.

Then, with two in the bottom of the fourth, Rea ran a full count on Andrew Vaughn

But the Brewers' first baseman got a hold of Rhea's cutter right over the heart of the plate to send Milwaukee into a frenzy as they took a 2-1 lead.

After a couple of innings, the Cubs had men on first and second with no outs in the top of the sixth.

But Brewers pitchers Aaron Ashby and rookie Chad Patrick got out of the jam without having to trade any outs for runs.

Patrick would go on to pitch the entire seventh inning for the Brewers and would send all three batters back to the dugout after striking out the side.

The Brewers' regular-season starter has pitched a total of 3.1 innings during this series and hasn't allowed a single hit or walk.

Brice Turang would add some insurance for the Brewers in the bottom of the seventh with a solo home run for his first hit of the game to put his squad up 4-1.

It was also Turang's first-ever postseason home run and that's all that was needed to send the Brewers to the NLCS, where they will be facing the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Wrap up stats

Brewers rookie pitcher Jacob Misiorowski earned the win after throwing four innings, giving up the Cubs' only run on three hits while striking out three and walking none.

Abner Uribe earned the two-inning save without giving up a single hit or run while walking just one batter.

Both teams went a combined 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position.

Chicago only racked up four hits in the game to Milwaukee's six.

Despite the three solo home runs for the Brewers, Caleb Durbin still led the team after going 2-for-4 at the plate.
