Baltimore Orioles starting pitcher Brandon Young (26) earned his first career win on Friday against the Houston Astros after almost throwing a perfect game.

Young had given up no hits, no runs, and no walks heading into the eighth inning. However, former teammate Ramon Urias hit a chopper down the third baseline that was officially ruled a hit instead of an error after Young's throw to first.

He finished the game going 8.0 shutout innings, giving up just one hit while striking out six batters - the best outting of his major league career.

The rookie had his teammates backing him up with the bats, including a pair of home runs from fellow rookie Coby Mayo and veteran Dyland Carlson

Young, a Texas native who grew up going to Astros games, had loved ones in attendance for the game on Friday.

This is Young's second shutout in his past three starts as he is finally starting to find his footing after having a rough season up to this point.

Heading into Friday's game, Young was 0-6 with a 6.70 earned run average in 10 starts. In July, Young finished the month giving up 30 hits and 17 earned runs in 24 innings with opponents batting a brutal .304 against him.

But in August, things have taken a turn for the better.

Young has a solid 3.45 ERA in August and has brought his opponent's batting average down to .283 - showing fans the rookie has the capabilities to be a true starter in the years to come. Now, it's just a matter of consistency.
