From fights for survival to promotion pushes, from football to snooker and even the NBA playoffs, this weekend is packed full of great sport! But what are the must-watch events across Saturday and Sunday?

Here's what our news editors have circled in their calendars:

Saturday, May 2nd

Championship final round - 13:30 CET

45 rounds down, one to go in the Championship, and it’s all up for grabs on the final day!

After their 2-2 draw against Southampton on Tuesday, Ipswich are one of three teams that could still secure automatic promotion on Saturday. The Tractor Boys sit on 81 points, whilst Millwall are a point back, and Middlesbrough lurk on 79.

As it’s the final match day, all games kick off at the same time, meaning it’s going to be a nervous watch for fans of each of the three clubs as they try to book their ticket to the Premier League.

If that wasn’t enough drama for you, there is also the fight for the final playoff spot...

Wrexham, whose director said in the week they had no right being this successful this season, currently occupy sixth spot, but they face Boro on Saturday in a huge game for the pair.

Hot on their heels are Hull and Derby; both can still crash the party if the Welsh side slip up.

With six teams all chasing glory on the final day, we are guaranteed thrills, spills, and probably some heartbreak too.

UEFA Women's Champions League semi-final second legs - Saturday & Sunday

After Hacken beat fellow Swedish side Hammarby in the inaugural UEFA Women's Europa Cup final on Friday, attention turns to this weekend. The conclusion of the UEFA Women's Champions League semi-finals will take place, as Arsenal look to defend their narrow lead over OL Lyonnes (2-1) while Barcelona and Bayern Munich are all square (1-1).

For the second round in a row, Lyonnes are the ones left chasing after losing their first leg. They rested their key players during midweek in a 1-1 draw against Nantes. If they are to make their first final in three years, they will have to score at least once against Arsenal. The good news for the French side is that they have scored in all but one of their 12 previous games against the Gunners.

As for Arsenal, they hammered Leicester 7-0 in the WSL on Wednesday. Renee Slegers' side have come into form at the right point of the season; while they did suffer back-to-back defeats last month, they can still end the campaign with two trophies. First, they will have to avoid defeat in France, something they managed to do in last year's semi.

Barcelona were the only club left in the UWCL not to take the field during the week. That leaves the three-time winners fresh for the decider at home. The Catalans have won their last nine at home in the competition, not conceding more than once in any game throughout that run. They carried the first leg in Germany, and are expected to do the same on Sunday. A record sixth straight UWCL final is on the line for the Liga F winners.

For Bayern, who already won the Frauen Bundesliga ahead of their midweek victory, they are looking to pull off a sizable upset to make their maiden European final. Die Bayern, who are unbeaten in their last three away games in continental play, lost their only match of the competition in Catalonia. In fact, the two games in which they failed to win so far were both in Spain. They had to work hard for the result last week, but can they go one step further on Sunday?

It will be an exciting weekend of women's football as we await the two teams making the trip to Oslo on May 23rd for the final.

Philadelphia 76ers vs Boston Celtics - 01:30 CET

After going down 3-1 in the series, Philly battled back and now have a chance to become just the second No. 7 seed in the past 15 years to upset the No. 2 seed in the first round of the playoffs (2023 Los Angeles Lakers defeated Memphis Grizzlies in Game 7).

Boston’s superstar Jayson Tatum left Game 6 with a hamstring injury and could possibly be sidelined for Game 7. "My leg just was a little stiff when I came out," he said after Game 6. "Just kind of assessing in the moment, the game was a little out of reach."

Philly led 82-63 after the third quarter, in which the Celtics only put up 14 points, which is ironic because that is exactly the fewest any of the 76ers starters scored in Game 6.

Both teams went the full seven games in the 2023 Eastern Conference semi-finals, in which Boston came out the winner in a 112-88 victory.

Every single game in this series has been decided by at least double-digit points except Game 3 (BOS 108-100 PHI). In every other game? The loser failed to reach 100 points.

In two of the three games Philly lost, they failed to have a player score at least 30 points. But in all three of their wins, they had at least one person reach that point amount. Meanwhile, in two of the three Celtics wins, only one person has scored more than 30 points (Payton Pritchard - 32 points, Game 4).

World Snooker Championship final - 14:00 CET

After a fortnight of thrilling action at the Crucible Theatre, snooker’s prestigious World Championship draws to a conclusion over the weekend, with the best-of-35-frame final taking place over Sunday and Monday.

Four men are chasing a spot in the showpiece event, with 2005 champion Shaun Murphy tied with four-time former winner John Higgins in their blockbuster semi-final, while prodigious talent Wu Yize is level 7-7 against Northern Ireland’s Mark Allen in the other last-four clash.

A first-time finalist is guaranteed, with neither Allen nor Wu having reached the World Championship final before, while Higgins and Murphy are two of the sport’s leading figures, with the pair having won 13 triple crown events between them (Higgins nine, Murphy four).

All four players have been in fine form throughout the tournament, seeing off the likes of Ronnie O’Sullivan, Zhao Xintong, Mark Selby and Kyren Wilson en route to the semi-final stage, so competition will certainly be fierce for the £500,000 winner’s cheque.

Aston Villa vs Tottenham - 20:00 CET

The weekend’s Premier League action wraps up in the best possible way: with maximum drama! Whether you’re a Spurs fan or not, the club’s battle against relegation is hard not to get sucked into, and this Sunday, the Lilywhites take on Aston Villa in Birmingham, fighting for their lives once again.

Spurs’ main rivals for survival, West Ham, are facing Brentford away on Saturday, so by the time Sunday comes around, Roberto De Zerbi’s side will know just how much they need a win. Nottingham Forest, meanwhile, won’t feature until Monday (against Chelsea), while Leeds are hosting Burnley on Friday evening. As it stands heading into the round, Spurs are two points behind the Hammers in 18th.

One glance at the table and you might think this is a terribly tough fixture for Tottenham. However, Unai Emery’s side have all but secured a top-five finish, and thus Champions League football, as they hold an eight-point lead on Brighton in sixth. What’s more, they are midway through their Europa League semi-final, having played on Thursday, and might well rest a few key players with the return leg next week.

All that bodes well for Spurs. However, as they say: ‘Lads, it’s Tottenham!’ Nothing has come easy for the North London side this season, and with the recently talismanic Xavi Simons joining their lengthy injury list, they will be missing a vital creative spark.

Looking at the recent history between the sides, Villa have won their last four meetings, worryingly for Spurs. However, two years ago, Tottenham thrashed their hosts 4-0 at Villa Park, and they’ll be hoping to channel some of that energy this weekend. This Sunday night blockbuster shouldn’t be missed!
