One of the best handballers in the world, Simon Pytlick, from Flensburg Handewitt, says it's absurd that some of the biggest superstars in handball earn only a fraction of what footballers are paid daily.

While the top stars of the football world can put billions of euros into their accounts every year, the world's best handball players are faced with a different reality.

In fact, the world's best handball players do not earn more than the best-paid players in the Danish Superliga, and the Danish national team star Simon Pytlick fails to understand why.

"It may seem absurd. A bit strange when you think about how many hours we spend on our sport and how high a level we play at", he says to Euroman.dk

According to the German media Bild, Mathias Gidsel, who has been named the world's best handball player for the past two years, earns €50,000 a month after he extended his contract with German champions Füchse Berlin earlier this year.

In comparison, Mohamed Elyounoussi, who is the best-paid player in the Danish Superliga, earns around €168.00 a month, according to Bold.dk

Although there are huge differences in terms of wages, Simon Pytlick would not trade his life for that of a footballer.

"They go through things that handball players don't experience at all. They can hardly move freely in public", he says.

Pytlick, who will join Füchse Berlin in the summer of 2027, is very satisfied with his life as a handball player, but he states at the same time that he would like to see the sport get more exposure.
