The New York Rangers placed starting goaltender Igor Shesterkin on IR due to an upper-body injury.

Veteran Jonathan Quick will step up as the new starter for the Rangers. The team recalled goaltender Louis Domingue from the Hartford Wolf Pack (AHL) to serve as Quick's backup during Shesterkin's absence.

Before going on IR, Shesterkin lost three straight games in net and five of his past six starts. The netminder made 21 saves in the team's recent 5-3 loss to the Florida Panthers on Monday, also Shesterkin's birthday.

The Rangers are 11-15-1 this season with Shesterkin in net. The six-year veteran and former Vezina Award winner (2021) is having the worst year of his career, posting a 3.10 goals-against average and a .906 save percentage.

Shesterkin signed a massive eight-year, $92-million deal with the Rangers back on December 7th, making him the highest-paid goalie in the league.

The Rangers return to New York on Thursday to take on the Boston Bruins. Quick, who is 5-4-0 in net for the Rangers this season, will be starting.
