The National Hockey League (NHL) has an exciting seven-game slate on Sunday night as Edmonton Oilers star forward Leon Draisaitl extended his point streak to 18 while the Colorado Avalanche spoiled former player Mikko Rantanen's return to Mile High City.

The Oilers have now won back-to-back games after beating the New York Rangers 3-1 thanks to goals from Corey Perry (15), Viktor Arvidsson (9), and Connor McDavid (25).

Draisaitl's assist to Perry marked his 52nd of the year, bringing his point total to 101 (49 goals). He needs just six more points to surpass his total from last year (106).

Avalanche 4-3 Stars

Rantanen's return to Colorado for the first time since being traded was met with cheers and applause. Unfortunately for him, his former teammates handed him an overtime loss.

The close division matchup win marks back-to-back wins for the Avs and back-to-back losses for the Stars

After going down 1-0 in the first, the Avs responded with three straight goals. Dallas responded with two of their own in the third period to send it to overtime.

That's when star player Cale Makar of the Avs scored the game-winning goal just 34 seconds into OT.

Islanders 4-2 Panthers

After going down 2-0 in the first period, the Isles retaliated with four straight goals in the third period to take home the upset win.

Marc Gatcomb (4), Maxim Tsyplakov (8), Noah Dobson (7), and Simon Holmstrom (15) all scored for the Islanders in a game in which they outshot the defending champs 34-34.

The Panthers have now loss back-to-back while the Islanders ended their three-game losing streak.

Around the league

The Detroit Red Wings are finally back in the win column after their 3-0 shutout over the Vegas Golden Knights, holding them to just 18 shots on goal. This marked Petr Mrazek's first win for the Red Wings after being traded ahead of the deadline and his first shutout of the season.

Over in St. Louis, the Blues gutted the Anaheim Ducks in a 7-2 win, the most they've scored since February 25th against the Seattle Kraken, in which they also scored seven.

After being down 1-0, the Utah Hockey Club rallied for a three-goal comeback in their 3-1 win over the Vancouver Canucks.

In the final game of the night, the league's best Winnipeg Jets held off the Kraken in a 3-2 overtime win in which Dylan Samberg (6) scored the game-winner. Teammate Kyle Connor, who scored his 36th of the season, has now scored in five of the past six games.
