As always, the National Hockey League (NHL) faced a busy Saturday of play. The Ottawa Senators scored seven in what was their best performance of the season.

Facing the Washington Capitals, the the Sens needed just a minute and 58 seconds to go in front through Dylan Cozens. That was the only goal of the period, as the Caps were still in the thick of it.

By the 6:22 mark of the second, it was already 4-0 in the Senators' favour. Three goals in less than three minutes completely changed the outcome, as Ottawa were in full command.

Drake Batherson added a fifth a minute into the third, and although Trevor van Riemsdyk got Washington on the board, it was a mere consolation. Batherson netted a second later on in the frame after Thomas Chabot also got in on the scoring to round out the 7-1 rout.

Earlier on in the day, a shootout was required for the Philadelphia Flyers, who stormed back from two down to defeat the New York Islanders 4-3. The hosts never led in the contest, and managed to tie things up twice through Trevor Zegras. In the shootout, Zegras and Matvey Michkov converted their attempts to lead the Flyers to a 2-1 success.

Matches in Pittsburgh and Nashville also went the distance. The Penguins fell 5-4 to the Columbus Blue Jackets despite the former scoring twice in the space of a minute in the third to force overtime and, subsequently, a shootout. The Blue Jackets scored all of their attempts to come out on top. As for the Predators, they edged the Los Angeles Kings, also by a 5-4 scoreline.

It was a fifth win of the year for the Florida Panthers, who got goals from Sam Reinhart, Cole Schwindt, and A.J. Greer in a 3-0 defeat of the visiting Vegas Golden Knigts.

Logan Cooley and Nick Schmaltz led the way for the Utah Mammoth with two goals each in their 6-2 success at the Minnesota Wild

Habs make impressive comeback to down Canucks

The Montreal Canadiens impressed in their game on Saturday as they edged the Vancouver Canucks 4-3 on the road. Things did not start well for the guests though, as Elias Pettersson put the hosts in front less than five minutes in. Jake DeBrusk added a second on a power play after the first intermission to double Vancouver's advantage.

Towards the end of the frame, the Habs got their opening goal. Nick Suzuki made the most of a man advantage situation to cut into the lead. They then scored three more in the third, leaving them a 4-2 lead with 8:51 left in the contest. Although Conor Garland did add a third for the Canucks, it proved to not be enough in this one.

Elsewhere, the Detroit Red Wings pulled off a remarkable comeback from four goals down thanks to six unanswered to top the St. Louis Blues 6-4 in an incredible game. Five different players scored for the home team to help them turn things around and earn their sixth win.

The Dallas Stars also produced a come-from-behind effort to down the Carolina Hurricanes 3-2, while the Tampa Bay Lightning got past the Anaheim Ducks 4-3. Anthony Cirelli's power play goal 3:15 proved to be the winner as the Bolts managed to hold on for the final few minutes.

In Toronto, the Maple Leafs and Buffalo Sabres traded goals in each period, producing a fascinating back-and-forth game. Forcing overtime, John Tavares ended the match 88 seconds in to give the Buds a 4-3 success.

The Boston Bruins topped the Colorado Avalanche 3-2 to end a six-game losing streak. As for the Seattle Kraken, they held off the Edmonton Oilers 3-2.
