The Nashville Predators came out of Thursday night with one of the biggest upsets of the season after taking down the red-hot Winnipeg Jets and their 11-game win streak while long-time Pittsburgh Penguin veteran Evgeni Malkin came in the clutch down the stretch.

It took the National Hockey League's (NHL) third-worst hockey team to end the Jets' historic win streak - and it all happened in the first period.

Filip Forsberg (22) got the Preds on the board first before Neal Pionk (9) answered for the Jets to tie it up 1-1.

Then Tommy Novak (12) scored for the Preds on a power play to go up 2-1 - and that's all that was needed.

The win came after Predators defenceman Luke Schenn criticized the team for their inability to score (click here for the full comments).

Penguins 5-4 Flyers

Despite being down 3-0 by the mid-second period, the Pittsburgh Penguins by scoring five of the game's final six goals.

Penguins star Malkin tied it up in the third period then proceeded to score the game-winner in overtime to end their four-game losing streak.

The game comes after the Penguins lost to the Flyers 6-1 in their game on Tuesday. Both teams are far from any playoff contention but there's still nothing like a rivalry win in overtime with a fan favourite scoring the final goal.

Lightning 3-0 Flames

Now that the Jets were taken down a peg by the Predators, the Tampa Bay Lightning now hold the longest winning streak in the league with seven after their shutout over the Flames

Nikita Kucherov (27) got things started with a power-play goal while teammates Erik Cernak (3) and Brandon Hagel (29) scored the other two.

Goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy recorded his 38th-career shutout and fourth of the season.

Canadiens 5-4 Sharks

San Jose lose yet another brutal one in overtime - this time to Montreal. This marks their seventh straight lost and third straight decided by one point.

They possess the worst record in the league at 15-36-9 while the Canadiens hit three wins straight, marking their first overtime win since January 19th against the New York Rangers, which also ended 5-4.
