The National Hockey League (NHL) had five games on the schedule on Friday, as the chase for a playoff spot continues. The Detroit Red Wings got back to winning ways, but it looks like it is too little, too late for them. Here is a look back on some of the action.

Tampa Bay Lightning 3-4 Detroit Red Wings (OT)

The Detroit Red Wings rallied twice to get back the Tampa Bay Lightning 4-3 in overtime.

Yet, they fell behind just a minute in as Anthony Cirelli put the Bolts in front. That would be the only goal in the opening frame, but Detroit equalised four minutes into the second through Patrick Kane. Tyler Motte then put the Red Wings ahead, but Gage Goncalves.

Tampa regained the lead 98 seconds into the final period of regulation. The guests had to fight back once more, which they successfully did as Marco Kasper tied things up for the Red Wings. The final eight minutes of the period solved nothing, meaning overtime was required.

Kasper played hero for Detroit once again, as he struck midway through the five-minute period to grab his side the victory.

The Red Wings' two-game losing skid came to an end as they go six points behind the last playoff place with three games left. Yet, it feels like it is a matter of being too late despite the win. As for the Lightning, they stay third in the Eastern Conference with the defeat being their fourth from their last five outings.

Ottawa Senators 5-2 Montreal Canadiens

The Ottawa Senators got past the Montreal Canadiens 5-2, denying the Habs the chance to virtually clinch a playoff berth.

Shane Pinto started the scoring 28 seconds in, before Dylan Cozens doubled the Sens' lead four minutes later. Ridley Greig added a third to start the second period, putting them in a solid position.

Christian Dvorak quickly got the Canadiens back into the game with a marker just a minute after. However, Drake Batherson re-established Ottawa's three-goal lead. Again, Montreal struck back quickly through Nick Suzuki. Still, the Habs could not close the gap any further. Pinto added one more towards the end on an empty net.

The Senators are sixth in the East, and have confirmed their place in the postseason. As for the Canadiens, they are still needing at least one more win to join Ottawa in the playoffs.
