Denmark will look to avenge their 5-2 defeat from the preliminary round when they face Switzerland in their first ever semi-final in the Ice Hockey World Championship on Saturday evening.

The Danish co-hosts of the tournament went from eighth to fourth in Group B via a winner-takes-all shoot-out against Germany before the sensational win against Canada which has made everyone talk ice hockey in Denmark.

A team that slumped to three straight losses at the start of the tournament have rebounded in style.

Jesper Jensen is confident that the Danes will be able to stage another upset even though they no longer have the luxury of playing in front of their own passionate crowd in the Boxen Arena:

“I know the Danish people will do everything they can to show up and support us in Stockholm. he said. “We just have to keep the adrenaline going and just believe in it. We have a great feeling, we have five wins in a row. So why not? We’ve beaten the Swiss before.”

However, the Danes could have their hands full against a Swiss outfit who for first time since 1953 is set for a top-four finish at back-to-back World Championships after they lost in the final last year to the Czech Republic in in Prague.

After losing the first game of the tournament in OT to the Czech Republic, they have produced four shut-outs, and just allowed four goals with Leonardo Genoni stopping 93.55% of shots faced.

In addition Sven Andrighetto has hit form at the perfect time, helped by Denis Malgin’s regular assists. Timo Meier and Kevin Fiala have made strong contributions but Switzerland's biggest strength is that they work as a well-oiled team.

Still, the Danes are eager to make the most of the occasion as Nicklas Jensen says: "We may never get the chance again, so we just got to keep going.  We know that it will be an incredibly difficult task, but the belief is there. We have built something special, and we have to keep believing in that."

"We are underdogs, and we are going to give it everything we have."

Denmark will face Switzerland at 18.20 CET at the Globen Arena in Stockholm.
