We have reached the quarter-final stage of the women's draw at the Italian Open, with a blockbuster encounter between Coco Gauff and Mirra Andreeva the main attraction. Meanwhile, the men's fourth round gets underway, as top seeds Jannik Sinner and Alexander Zverev are in action.

16:53 CET - Alexander Zverev had four match points against Italian Luciano Darderi and was on the brink of the quarter-finals, but the world number three threw away his chances before losing the second set tiebreak.

Darderi then stormed the deciding set 6-0 to send Zverev packing after the German fell apart. A fantastic 1-7, 7-6(10), 6-0 comeback win for the Italian for sure, but a worrying defeat for Zverev, who continues to struggle mentally in the big moments.

16:43 CET - Jannik Sinner is it inevitable, isn't he? Whenever he plays right now, you expect him to win in straight sets, and any other outcome would be a massive shock.

The historic Career Golden Masters is very much still alive for the dominant world number one after he decisively dispatched fellow Italian Andrea Pellegrino, 6-2, 6-3, whose impressive run in Rome comes to an end.

14:42 CET - Sorana Cirstea's utterly remarkable final year on tour shows no sign of slowing down, with the Romanian defeating Jelena Ostapenko, 6-1, 7-6(0).

Cirstea is playing arguably the best tennis of her career, and has booked her spot in a maiden Rome semi-final. It is her fourth 1000 semi-final overall, and her first in two years.

13:56 CET - Spanish sensation Rafa Jodar continues his incredible breakthrough run, easing to a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Learner Tien to reach the quarter-finals.

The 19-year-old has now reached back-to-back Masters quarter-finals, becoming the first teenager since Novak Djokovic in 2007 to reach the last eight in Rome.

Ranked 165 at the start of the year, he will move into the top 30 after this week. An exceptional talent who is going from strength to strength, he will face the winner of Alexander Zverev vs Luciano Darderi, which is up next.

13:10 CET - Karen Khachanov has seen off the challenge of Novak Djokovic's conqueror, Dino Prizmic, winning 6-1, 7-6(2) to secure his spot in an 11th Masters 1000 quarter-final, and his first in Rome.

The Russian his seven aces despite landing just 59% first serves. Prizmic fell short of the level he displayed earlier this week, hitting 37 unforced errors, which ultimately proved too many.

Casper Ruud awaits in the last eight.

12:32 CET - Casper Ruud has surged into the quarter-finals of the Italian Open, cruising past the eighth seed and home favourite Lorenzo Musetti, 6-3, 6-1.

Musetti seemed to be hampered by an injury, and after losing the first set, Ruud showcased his clay-court prowess to surge ahead.

The Norwegian was ruthless from the back of the court, making just 14 unforced errors to Musetti's 25. Ruud is a three-time semi-finalist in the Italian capital, and he will next face the winner of Karen Khachanov vs Dino Prizmic, which is currently ongoing.

11:02 CET - Right then, play is set to get underway in the Italian capital, on what promises to be a really exciting day.

We are also set to see a fascinating battle between young guns Rafa Jodar and Learner Tien, before second seed and two-time champion Alexander Zverev looks to progress against Italian Luciano Darderi.

The world number one, Jannik Sinner, who is aiming to become the youngest player to complete the Career Golden Masters, then faces off against qualifier and surprise story Andrea Pellegrino in an all-Italian match.

Karen Khachanov, Hamad Medjedovic, Andrey Rublev and 2023 winner Daniil Medvedev are other players all eyeing the quarter-finals.

Meanwhile, the women's last eight also begins at 13:00 CET, with Sorana Cirstea, who is enjoying a final year on tour, taking on former French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko.

The heavyweight contest of the day comes later tonight, as French Open champion Coco Gauff goes head-to-head with 19-year-old Mirra Andreeva, with the latter coming off the back of reaching the Madrid final just over a week ago.
