Nigeria international goalkeeper Amas Obasogie has been suspended for three months by Tanzanian side Singida Black Stars SC pending an investigation into allegations of match-fixing, the club confirmed on Friday.

The decision was announced in a public statement issued on February 27th, 2026, with the club stating that the suspension is a precautionary measure to allow its Disciplinary Committee conduct a full review of the matter.

As at the time of this report, no formal charges or detailed evidence have yet been made public by the club or Tanzanian football authorities.

Obasogie came under scrutiny following Thursday’s Tanzanian Premier League clash against Namungo FC. Singida Black Stars were leading 1–0 deep into stoppage time when the hosts conceded a late free kick.

The delivery appeared routine, but Obasogie spilt the ball, allowing Fabrice Ngoy to capitalise and score a dramatic equaliser.

In the same statement released by the CEO’s Office and shared on the club’s official X account, the Disciplinary Committee also handed a three-month suspension to midfielder Khalid Aucho over alleged indiscipline and absenteeism.

"The leadership of Singida Black Stars SC, through the Disciplinary Committee, has taken disciplinary action against players Khalid Aucho and Amas Obasogie as follows:

"Khalid Aucho: Punished for indiscipline and absenteeism from work, suspended for 3 months.

"Amas Obasogie: Suspended for 3 months to allow investigation into match-fixing allegations.

"The club reminds all players and staff to uphold discipline, accountability, and respect for the club."

Obasogie joined Singida Black Stars in recent seasons and has been a regular starter in the Tanzanian top flight.

On the international stage, he was part of Nigeria’s squad that finished third at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, serving as third-choice goalkeeper behind Stanley Nwabali and Francis Uzoho.

The 25-year-old shot-stopper now awaits the outcome of the investigation, with the club yet to clarify which specific matches or incidents triggered the probe.

Obasogie becomes the second Nigerian goalkeeper in recent years to face integrity-related scrutiny, following the 2025 suspension of Maduka Okoye in Italy over a betting-related case.
