The 25-year-old received a nasty knock to his left eye on Wednesday night, with Gold Coast coach Des Hasler declaring on Thursday afternoon that he had been cleared of serious damage.

Gold Coast Titans skipper Fa’asuamaleaui was one of the few Queensland players to be praised for their individual performance during the Maroons' 18-6 loss at home to New South Wales on Wednesday night, gaining 121 metres from his 14 runs and missing just four out of 34 attempted tackles.

Fa’asuamaleaui needed stitches to his upper left eye socket following a deep cut received during the match and, according to news agency AAP on Thursday morning, was checked for a potential fracture before the club determined he would be fit to play against the Melbourne Storm this weekend.

"It looks like all three boys will back up, they all pulled up healthy," Hasler said of the three Titans' Origin representatives, all of whom had been named to play this weekend.

"He (Fa'asuamaleaui) is OK. It's just bruising."

Fa’asuamaleaui had earlier spoke of his intention to play this weekend even before being cleared of serious damage.

"I pride myself on backing up from Origin. I intend to play," he told AAP.

"I hope to be back again in Perth (for Game 2) but first of all I want to perform for the Titans against the Storm."

The Titans go into the weekend in 16th place with just three wins from ten games and the league's worst defensive record, conceding an unenviable average of 31 points per match.
