The San Francisco 49ers signed kicker Eddy Pineiro on Tuesday shortly after releasing Jake Moody.

Pineiro has a connection to the 49ers' special teams coordinator, Brant Boyer, who coached the veteran kicker when they were both on the New York Jets in 2021.

San Fran released Moody, a former third-round pick, following a rough Week 1 performance (read more here).

The 29-year-old Pineiro is currently the third-most accurate (88.1%) kicker in NFL history. He's coming off a season with the Carolina Panthers, where he made 22-of-26 kicks, missing just one from under 40 yards, two from under 50, and one of 50.

Pineiro signed with the Chicago Bears in 2018 as an undrafted free agent. He spent two seasons with the team in 2018 and 2019, but was out for the entirety of his second year with a groin injury.

After being out for almost two full seasons' worth of games, Pineiro signed with the Jets in December of 2021, where he made all eight of his field goal attempts, including one from 51 yards.

He then went on to spend the next three seasons with the Panthers before eventually finding himself alone in free agency following the 2024 season.

Now, Pineiro is back on another team that needs kicking help.
