It took some enormous efforts for Auckland to win away in Newcastle, and that's why Black Knights players registered the three best Flashscore ratings of the weekend.

Here are the eleven top performers (by position) from Round 21 of the A-League (with the exception of Tuesday night's game still to come at time of publication), according to Flashscore's in-house player rating system.

GK: Andrew Redmayne - Central Coast Mariners (8.6)

Redmayne continues to look like the signing of the season from Warren Moon after he made eight saves at the weekend, the fourth time in eight games he kept out at least seven shots on target in a match.

LB: Francis De Vries - Auckland FC (9.2)

As well as an assist, De Vries got his rating into the 9s with two touches in the opposition box, five interceptions, nine clearances and a perfect record of winning ten out of ten individual duels. An outstanding performance.

CB: Jacob Farrell - Western Sydney Wanderers (8.5)

The Wanderers' Aussie Portsmouth loanee made by far his best performance in his brief return to the A-League, albeit getting booked for a fourth time in five games. His 8.5 came courtesy of winning 11 of his 13 duels - no player won or attempted more - whilst he also topped the match count for intercepts (six) and came close to doing so for clearances as well (four).

CB: Sebastian Esposito - Melbourne Victory (9.0)

Esposito won more duels (7/9) than any other player in Sunday night's encounter, whilst he also notched up six clearances, passed at 84% accuracy and had a shot at goal.

RB: Josh Rawlins - Melbourne Victory (7.4)

It was a quiet weekend for right backs, and perhaps that'll change when Rhyan Grant and Nathaniel Atkinson take to the pitch looking to upend Josh Rawlins' humble rating of 7.4. Take nothing away from Rawlins' effort, which included 14 accurate passes in the final third, four interceptions and six out of eight duels won.

LM: Jesse Randall - Auckland FC (9.0)

It was a three-way toss-up between Randall and teammates De Vries and Cosgrove for the Player of the Match here. Our algorithm had Randall a narrow third place, partly because he created only 0.07xG with his three shots. He did however make two big chances, one of which was converted.

CM: Ethan Alagich - Adelaide United (8.1)

Alagich's rating could have been game-best were it not for his early booking, but he recovered nicely to make his first TOTW appearance since October with an 91% passing accuracy in the final third, three shots, two successful dribbles and he kept himself busy in defence with a match-high 11 duels.

CM: Juan Mata - Melbourne Victory (8.3)

Another week, another assist, another TOTW appearance for the Spanish legend. Just hand him the Johnny Warren Medal now. We can't wait to see what he can produce in the finals for the Victory.

RM: Ramy Najjarine - Wellington Phoenix (7.6)

Najjarine has admittedly been well below his best during the tumultous period that saw the Phoenix fail to win seven consecutive games, but his own individual success was synonymous with that of his side at the weekend. He contributed with an assist, a 97% passing accuracy (100% in the final third) and he won a game-high nine ground duels.

FW: Sam Cosgrove - Auckland FC (9.3*)

As the only player of the weekend to register a double, Cosgrove has propelled himself to the top of the Golden Boot standings. Six of his ten goals scored this season came in 2026, and his double was scored from eight touches in the opposition box and four shots.

FW: Brandon Borrello - Western Sydney Wanderers (8.6)

Borrello bounced back from his nightmare showing against Newcastle by scoring for the second time in three outings, topping the match for shots (seven), touches in the opposition box (nine) and expected goals (0.89).
