In a new monthly feature, Flashscore uses in-depth statistics and our player ratings system to break down who the best performer has been across the best leagues in the world. Ousmane Dembele claimed our January award, and a second Frenchman is in the frame for February - with Bayern Munich's Michael Olise the standout player.

Making waves in Germany

Olise arrived at Bayern Munich in the summer of 2024 from Crystal Palace for a reported fee of around 60 million euros (£50m) after enjoying a few solid seasons in the Premier League.

The Frenchman was one of the top young prospects in England and many touted him for a future role at one of the 'big six' teams before Bayern swooped in to seal his signature - becoming one of the first marquee signings under manager Vincent Kompany.

Despite missing preseason with Bayern to take part in the Olympics with France, the winger wasted no time in acclimatising to the Bundesliga style and hasn't looked back since as he continues to establish himself as one of the best in his position.

Still aged just 23, Olise is one of the most promising young players around and his latest batch of performances have made him Flashscore's February Player of the Month.

Becoming a key offensive outlet

In a side full of attacking talent, it is impressive that Olise has established himself as one of Bayern's key players.

His performances in February proved pivotal to Bayern maintaining their lead at the top of the Bundesliga and advancing to the Champions League last 16 - with Olise featuring seven times, racking up three goals, one assist and an 8.2 average rating.

Across the entire season, Olise is one of Europe's top creative players and finds himself in the top percentile for chances created per 90 minutes while also ranking highly for dribbles completed and touches in the opposition box.

Those performance levels continued in February, with standout efforts coming in a 2-1 triumph away at Celtic and a 3-1 victory against Stuttgart, with the Frenchman scoring in both.

Olise's showings have been far better than just goals and assists, though - with in-depth Opta stats explaining more.

The 23-year-old created a joint-most five big chances throughout February in Europe's top five leagues (tied with Dortmund's Pascal Gross, Lyon's Rayan Cherki and Aron Donnum of Toulouse) as well as nine 'regular' chances created from open play and three from set-pieces.

His trademark dribbling and close-control were also regular features throughout the month, with Olise completing 11 successful take-ons and 31 progressive carries in the Bundesliga (defined as a carry that moves the player at least five metres up the pitch).

In fact, the winger has been one of the Bundesliga's best attacking ball carriers all season, with a total of 371.

Over in the Champions League, the winger's performances were equally as impressive - creating three big chances across the knockout play-off ties, the most of any player, while also completing four dribbles.

On the face of it, those numbers might not sound too outrageous, but Olise was up against a very stubborn Celtic defence over two legs and was one of the key influences to unlocking the Hoops' low-block and rescuing Bayern from an embarrassing early exit, even opening the scoring in the first leg with a brilliant goal.

Olise's performances across the month earned him an average Flashscore rating of 8.2 from 531 minutes played (seven total appearances) - which is the highest of any player with a minimum of four games played.

'A proper football player'

Olise's qualities on the ball have already been noted, but French legend Thierry Henry - who coached the youngster at the 2024 Olympics - has insisted that the 23-year-old's contributions go far deeper.

"Michael (Olise) is a proper football player," Henry told the Independent.

"He will always try to do what the game requires for the team. He presses well. He has an eye for a pass. Obviously, as you can see, he can score some goals.

"He's a special talent but always tries to do what the game requires, which is not always an easy task."

This is highlighted by Olise winning back possession 23 times in the Bundesliga over the last month as well as winning 26 duels - proving he also makes valuable contributions off the ball.

"When you can do something, when you have the quality to perform alone, but you still stay grounded to do what the team needs you to do, it's very important," Henry continued.

"I'm just happy with what's happening to him right now, because he deserves it."
