Holstein Kiel became the first-ever Bundesliga debutants to go winless in their opening 11 away matches as a Can Uzun-inspired Eintracht Frankfurt boosted their top four hopes with a 3-1 win at Deutsche Bank Park.

Having opened the scoring after three minutes against Bochum last weekend, Holstein Kiel aimed to make another fast start. The visitors flew forward early on in their search for an opener, but couldn’t find a way to open up the Eagles’ defence.

It didn’t take long for Frankfurt to seize control of possession and threaten Holstein Kiel’s goal, and in what was a taste of events to come, Hugo Ekitike’s deflected shot forced Bundesliga debutant Thomas Dahne into a fingertip save.

That chance gave the hosts attacking momentum and the Eagles finally scored in a 21st successive home Bundesliga game on 18 minutes, when Nathaniel Brown’s flicked header was finished by Hugo Larsson’s volley.

Brown almost got on the scoresheet for himself minutes later, with a swivel and shot from the edge of the area that crashed off the post.

Frankfurt continued to barrage the Holstein Kiel goal and the hosts doubled their lead after Can Uzun’s cross was volleyed into the net by the unmarked Tuta.

It could have been worse for the visitors before half-time too, as Ivan Nekic’s handball in the area gifted Frankfurt’s Ekitike a chance to score a sixth goal in six games, but the Frenchman's spot-kick was saved by Dahne.

However, Frankfurt got their third goal just before the hour mark, putting a seventh Bundesliga home win of the season beyond all doubt, when Uzun intercepted David Zec’s loose pass and curled the ball into the bottom corner past Dahne.

As a scant consolation, Holstein Kiel did at least continue their run of scoring in every Bundesliga away game this season as Finn Porath raced into the Frankfurt area and drew Kevin Trapp into a double save, but eventually finished with a third attempt.

Frankfurt needed a response here after failing to win their previous three, and the Eagles duly delivered a dominant performance to secure a fourth home win in five. Holstein Kiel’s defensive woes continued at Deutsche Bank Park, and Marcel Rapp’s side have now conceded two or more goals in every away game this season, leaving the Storks with plenty of work to do if they want to climb off the Bundesliga’s bottom spot.
