Kuchtas services were much in demand after winning his second successive title with Sparta Prague before last summer. There were rumours of interest from England and the United States, but in the end he chose to continue his career with the reigning Danish champions who paid 2,7 mio. EURO for his signature on a four-year contract.
Kuchta began promisingly and already in the first match against Silkeborg he helped the team to a 3-1 victory with an assist. "He brought the quality and calmness that comes from his experience," said a satisfied coach Thomas Thomasberg after the match.
He followed that up with impressive performances against FC Copenhagen and Hillerød and the Danish media were generally were very impressed with his efforts. But during the autumn Kuchta gradually struggled to live up to expectations.
"He didn't fit into Midtjylland's system," says Hoffskov. They play a 3-4-3 formation, but Kuchta didn't fit into it. He didn´t receive the service he needs. It's like the club didn't even look at at his strenghts."
"Basically, he didn't impress anyone. But people should also realize it's not just his fault. As I said, the club didn't use his strengths, but that's not the player's fault."
As Kuchta failed to deliver, he gradually became second choice to FC Midtjyllands other strikers, Franculino and Adam Buksa, the team's leading goalscorers even though he was given plenty of chances to shine.
"Midtjylland really has a lot of strikers, so there is a lot of competition, but I think Kuchta got quite a few chances and the club was fair to him in that respect. He also has to look at himself. When he was given the chance, he didn´t take it, says Hoffskov,
Kuchta had to wait six games for his first league goal, scoring for the first time against Sønderjyske, although the team lost 2-3. "He is a player who can score goals when he gets a chance, which we have seen in the past. Now he got on the scoreboard, it is nice for him and for the team. We have a lot of players up front, so it was important for him to score," said Thomasberg back then.
That was at the end of October but since the situation went from to worse for Kucta. He spent the end of the autumn season on the bench, apart from three minutes against Eintracht Frankfurt and it was expected that he would leave the club in the current transfer window.
"Kuchta and the club assessed that this would be the best solution for the player. He needs to regain his lost confidence," says Hoffskov further.
Kuchta began his preparation for the spring season with FCM but a few days later the situation changed and Tipsbladet confirmed that Kuchta would return to Sparta Prague until the end of the season.
Allegedly his options were quite limited with Norway, USA or Sweden as the most likely destination if he wasn´t going to return to Sparta Prague.
In the end Kuchta chose to return to base which coach Lars Friis is probably extremely happy with given the fact that Sparta only has Victor Olatunji and Indrit Tuci available for the attack from the first team regulars while Albion Rrahmani is returning from injury and is not yet 100% ready.
Sparta Prague is again in action in the Czech league on Sunday 2nd February where they face Slovacko away.
