Ajax have announced the transfer of Norwegian winger Oliver Edvardsen (25) from fellow Eredivisie side Go Ahead Eagles.

News of Ajax targeting Edvardsen broke earlier this week. The Amsterdam side have been looking for offensive reinforcements after playing the first half of the campaign with just one natural left winger in the squad - that one being Mika Godts.

After Godts re-injured his hamstring during Thursday's Europa League game against Galatasaray, Ajax and technical director Alex Kroes accelerated negotiations with Go Ahead Eagles ahead of Sunday's 'Klassieker' against Feyenoord. However, the club were too late with registering Edvardsen for this game, meaning he will not make his debut in the derby.

Edvardsen joins Ajax on a 3-and-a-half-year deal with the option of extending it for a further year. Ajax reportedly pay €3 million for Edvardsen.

"As we know, we had been looking for reinforcements for the left winger position for some time," said Alex Kroes on the club's website. "We are therefore very happy to attract Oliver.

"He is a player with great depth, scores a lot and has good statistics. In addition, he can play on either wing. Given this complete picture, we are convinced we are going to have a lot of fun with him."

25-year-old Edvardsen joined Go Ahead Eagles in the summer of 2022 from Norwegian side Stabaek. The winger has since accounted for 26 goals and 5 assists in 81 appearances. Edvardsen has been showcasing his best football this season with 8 goals and 3 assists in just fourteen Eredivisie games.
