Feyenoord manager Robin van Persie said he's "enjoying" building on his team and culture at Feyenoord.

The Premier League icon was appointed as Feyenoord manager on February 23rd after Danish boss Brian Priske was fired following a run of disappointing results.

41-year-old Van Persie joined Feyenoord from Heerenveen and failed to win his first three games in charge, but is now riding a two-game win streak with victories over 6th-placed FC Twente (6-2) and 7th-placed Go Ahead Eagles (3-2).

Van Persie has asked for some understanding as Feyenoord's third manager this season after Priske and caretaker manager Pascal Bosschaart.

"You have to take that on board as well. Understanding is an important word, back and forth. And time is also important," Van Persie told club channel Feyenoord One. "It also takes some time to get used to each other. I'm not in a hurry either.

"Every day, we make one step at a different part. We do that based on meetings, based on practice, based on the games. And that's how we build slowly. I really enjoy my players.

"I enjoy their commitment and their qualities. We are getting a little bit better every day."

FC Groningen

Feyenoord are currently in fourth, trailing third-placed FC Utrecht by two points, but with a game in hand. With a win against FC Groningen on Wednesday night, Feyenoord could overtake Utrecht and put pressure on second-placed PSV, who would be five points ahead.

Van Persie is wary of Wednesday's opponents. "They have only lost once in the last six games and have climbed up the league table quite nicely as a result. They don't concede many goals and can counter well."

His objective with the club he scored 46 goals for is still very clear: "We would like to get into the Champions League. Most realistically, we have to do that via third place. But the Champions League is very important for our club."

Feyenoord-FC Groningen kicks off Wednesday night at 20.00 CET.
