Superstar French striker Kylian Mbappe has told the media in Germany that he had contact with Bayern Munich and other clubs from the Bundesliga in his younger years, but then decided on a different career path.

The Real Madrid superstar revealed this information in an interview with Bild.

"Many clubs approached me. Bayern came to me when I was a bit younger and could leave Monaco," confessed Mbappe.

Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig also made enquiries.

"And those are just the three clubs I remember. Maybe there were others, but I don't remember," said the 26-year-old, adding with a laugh: "Everyone's asking now, but it's a bit too late."

Mbappe was loaned to Paris Saint-Germain by AS Monaco in 2017. A year later, the French serial champions signed the then top talent permanently for 180 million euros. Mbappe is now scoring goals for Real Madrid.

Mbappe praises Xabi Alonso

Mbappe said he has a"great impression" of the new Real coach Xabi Alonso.

"You see a guy who wants to be successful. He knows the club perfectly because he played for Real Madrid himself.

"At the moment, we're just trying to implement what he tells us," added Mbappe about the Leverkusen double coach.

"We're trying to understand the concept of the game he has for us - and then we'll see what happens."
