The first game of the 2026/27 Ligue 1 season featured two teams who experienced a change of manager over the summer. New Marseille boss Bruno Genesio saw his side make a purposeful start to proceedings, with Angel Gomes going close on two occasions inside the opening quarter.

Matters quickly got worse for Strasbourg when Paixao capitalised on Guela Doue’s complacency to draw a clumsy foul in the box, allowing Gouiri to send the goalkeeper the wrong way from the penalty spot and slot home his second of the contest.
There was still time left for the hosts to punish the depleted visitors with two further strikes.
Substitute Keyliane Abdallah drove a low shot in at the near post to open his account at senior level, moments before Hojbjerg’s controlled volley found a way past Jorgensen to compound Oliveira’s difficult debut in the Strasbourg dugout.
