The three-week international break finally came to an end, as the Turkish Super Lig made its return over the weekend. All four title challengers, Galatasaray, Fenerbahce, Besiktas and Trabzonspor, picked up three points to get back up and running.

Galatasaray kicked off the Super Lig weekend with a Friday evening game at home to Kasimpasa, with a few players being rested ahead of the Champions League meeting with Barcelona.

For an hour of the contest, Galatasaray were the dominant side, playing some really nice football with new signing Aleksiy Batrakov at the heart of all things good.

They took the lead on the cusp of half-time courtesy of Abdulkerim Bardakci, but the game took a turn when Lucas Torreira was sent off just after 60 minutes for denying a clear goalscoring opportunity.

Minutes later, Kasimpasa scored to make it 1-1, and the momentum seemed to be really slipping away.

However, Galatasaray wrestled back control of the contest, and with Victor Osimhen, Leroy Sane, Mario Lemina and Eren Elmali all being subbed on and making a big impact, they found the winner.

Baris Alper Yilmaz, who was filling in at right back, capped off a superb display with an emphatic finish on his left foot, before Lemina forced home deep in added time to complete a deserved 3-1 victory.

Onto Barcelona...

Fenerbahce were in action the following day, and clinched a 3-0 victory against a very profligate Rizespor.

Marco Asensio opened the scoring via a massive deflection in the first half, and they needed Ederson at his best in goal to keep Rize out for large portions of the match.

Irfan Can Kahveci curled home emphatically in the 83rd minute to make it 2-0, before Oguz Aydin put the cherry on the cake in the last few minutes.

Earlier on Saturday, Thomas Reis' Trabzonspor paid a visit to his former club, Samsunspor, and they put in an impressive performance to win 3-0 away from home.

Ernest Muci, Chibuike Nwaiwu and Franculino were the goalscorers, and Trabzon have now won their first two games under their new manager by an aggregate scoreline of 7-0, including the 4-0 thrashing of Galatasaray.

It has been a really excellent start from Reis, and following the game, the man who replaced him at Samsunspor back in February, Thorsten Fink, was sacked.

Samsun have made a poor start to the campaign, sitting second from the bottom after five losses on the trot.

It seems a bit harsh, especially considering they lost their two key players, Carlo Holse and Rick van Drongelen, in the summer. But that is the nature of football management.

Finally, Besiktas got back to winning ways following their defeat to Amedspor before the international break, grabbing a 2-1 win over a really good Kocaelispor side, perhaps in slightly fortunate circumstances.

Orkun Kokcu gave them the lead in the first 18 minutes, before Kocaeli struck back 10 minutes later.

Just after the half-hour mark, Besiktas were then awarded an extremely soft penalty, and Dusan Vlahovic slotted home, which proved to be the winning goal.

Galatasaray sit top of the table, with Besiktas just a single point behind. Super Lig debutants Amedspor sit sandwiched between the big four teams in third, with Fenerbahce fourth and Trabzonspor fifth, both three points off the summit.

Goztepe forward Andre Henrique is the Flashscore Player of the Week, according to our very own internal ratings system, after bagging a hat-trick off the bench in the second half to help his side to a 4-0 win at basement-dwellers Eyupspor.

Galatasaray duo Gabriel Sara and Batrakov also make the XI, alongside Besiktas' Tiago Djalo and Orkun, and Trabzon pair Mustafa Eskihellac and Nwaiwu.
