Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni has commented on Raphinha's controversial statement about "kicking ass" in Tuesday's (25) World Cup qualifying clash. The coach avoided adding fuel to the fire and used Messi and Neymar's friendship as an example of what he expects from the rivalry.

"I haven't delved into the statements, but I've heard some comments. It's Argentina-Brazil and it's an important game, but it's still a football match," said Scaloni at a press conference on Monday.

"I remember the image after the 2021 Copa América, of Leo (Messi) with Neymar, sitting on the steps of the Maracanã. That's the image that has to stay," he added.

Argentina and Brazil meet on Tuesday at the Monumental de Núñez in the 14th round of qualifying. La Albiceleste only need a draw to secure a place at the World Cup.

Raphinha warmed up the mood for the derby in an interview with Romario on Romario TV. "Beat them up, without a doubt! On the pitch and off the pitch, if we have to," said the Selecao striker.

Scaloni also spoke about possible acts of racism that worry Brazil's players.

"That question is logically out of reach. It doesn't exist in our minds. We hope that the people who go cheer for Argentina, and the Brazilians for their team," he said.
