Striker Wout Weghorst has withdrawn from the Netherlands squad ahead of their FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Poland and Lithuania, the KNVB announced on Wednesday.

Weghorst arrived at the Netherlands' training camp in Zeist with minor symptoms and was going to have his fitness re-evaluated ahead of Friday's game against Poland.

The Ajax striker hadn't scored yet for the Netherlands in 2025, with his last Oranje goal dating back to November 16th, 2024, during the Nations League game against Hungary.

In anticipation of Weghorst's potential absence, manager Ronald Koeman handed Strasbourg striker Emmanuel Emegha his maiden call-up to the senior squad. Emegha has been in fine form for Strasbourg, scoring six goals and assisting a further two in eight games across all competitions.

The Netherlands play their two final FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Poland on November 14th and Lithuania on November 17th. Oranje leads Group G with 16 points, three more than Poland.
