The two-time defending champion had an uncharacteristic performance in the match, hitting a whopping 51 unforced errors. Still, it proved to be just enough for him to move on in the torunament.

05:10 CET - A cracking five-set encounter goes the way of Lorenzo Musetti, who edges Tomas Machac 5-7, 6-4. 6-2, 5-7, 6-2. The fifth seed won 73% of his first serve points, which played a role in him being able to advance.

04:40 CET - Play has been paused on the outer courts due to extreme heat in Melbourne. The courts with the retractable roofs are able to continue upon the closing of the roof.

04:10 CET - The 22nd seed Luciano Darderi moves into the second week in Melbourne after the Italian prevailed against Karen Khachanov 7-6 (5), 3-6, 6-3, 6-4. Hitting 19 aces, Darderi did enough to win the last two sets and make the fourth round.

03:30 CET - Amanda Anisimova is into the next round at the Australian Open thanks to a straight set win over Peyton Stearns. The match, which ended 6-1, 6-4 in the fourth seed's favour, lasted 72 minutes as Anisimova made the most of five of her chances to break.

02:00 CET - Madison Keys booked her place in the last 16 thanks to a 6-3, 6-3 defeat of Karolina Pliskova. The defending champion converted four of her nine break point opportunities, paving the way to her 10th successive win down under.

01:50 CET - Jessica Pegula makes it through to the fourth round after a fairly straightforward 6-3, 6-2 victory over Oksana Selekhmeteva. The sixth seed lost just three of her first serve points, as she managed to get the job done in just over an hour.
