Griekspoor is trying to bounce back from an up-and-down 2025 season, in which he won his first tournament since 2023 but also played a somewhat disastrous second half of the season, partially due to lingering injuries.
The 29-year-old Dutchman opened his 2026 season with three straight losses, too, after falling to Alexander Zverev and Hubert Hurkacz in the United Cup, while Ugo Humbert was too strong for Griekspoor in Adelaide.
Against Ethan Quinn, the same opponent Griekspoor faced in the first round of last year's Wimbledon tournament, failed to convince in the opening stages as he dropped his second service game on Quinn's third break point. The Dutchman put up little competition in his return games, winning just three total return points from 19 tries, as Quinn easily won the first set 6-2.

Griekspoor's woes continued in the second set, starting it with another broken service game as he squandered a 40-15 lead to go down 2-0 in games. The Dutchman rebounded with his first break of the match, but fell straight back down again as Quinn broke Griekspoor a second-straight time and closed out the set with three consecutive love games on serve.
The visibly frustrated Griekspoor couldn't recover his form in the third set either, starting it with another broken service games after fending off Quinn's first three break points. Quinn followed it up with his fourth-straight love game, but Griekspoor found some rhythm as he claimed his first game win and broke Quinn on love, getting back to 2-2.
The wheels blew off again, however, as Quinn stormed to four consecutive won games to close out the match and send Griekspoor home with another devastating defeat.
Tallon Griekspoor's wait for a first win since October continues into February, while Quinn will play his first-ever second-round match at the Australian Open. The 21-year-old American will face Hubert Hurkacz next.
