Danish tennis player Elmer Moller has played his way through to the main tournament Madrid Open.
With a 7-6, 6-3 victory over Spanish Pablo Llamas Ruiz in the qualifiers, Elmer Moller is now ready for the Master 1000 tournament for the second successive season.
On Monday, he won in two sets over Frenchman Hugo Gaston, who is ranked 115th in the world.
Elmer Moller is No 169 in the world, but on his favorite surface, clay, he has previously won against higher-ranked players. And he did so again in the qualification tournament in Madrid on Tuesday,
In the first set, Elmer Moller had break points against him in three games. The Dane saved six break points when he was behind 0-1, 1-2, and 2-3 in the first set.
Moller was then able to add stability to his game and forced the match into a tiebreak in the first set with the scoreline at 6-6. In the tiebreak, Moller led 4-0 and 5-1 before Llamas Ruiz reduced the deficit to 4-6 after saving a set point.
However, Elmer Moller took the opening set and continued to ride his momentum in the second set.
The Dane broke serve to claim a 4-2 lead, and although he missed three match points on the Spaniard's serve a little later, he was able to decide the match on his own serve.
Elmer Moller also played his way into the main tournament in Madrid last year. It was his debut at that level, and he lost in the first round to the Brazilian talent Joao Fonseca.
