Clara Tauson wasted a hatful full of chances to turn the tide in her favor when she on Sunday lost 6-3, 7-6 in the WTA 1000 tournament in Miami to the Spaniard, Paula Badosa, who received treatment for a sore back throughout the match.

Paula Badosa seemed to be crusing towards an expected win against Tauson when the two players went face to face in the WTA 1000 tournament in Miami Open on Sunday afternoon.

The Spanish world number 11 showed all her strength and cleverness on court as she won the first set 6-3 in prolific fashion but then suddenly was forced to receive treatment for a possible back injury, when she was down 15-40 in her own service game with Tauson leading 1-0 in the second set.

However, when everybody expected her to retire, the Spaniard returned to the court with a grimace that didn't suggest she was feeling well and played on.

Despite being clearly hampered by her back pain, Badosa managed to win her own service game by winning four successive points, before she received treatment again.

Tauson was in control of the game for the majority of the match and dictated play, but the Spaniard, on the other hand, used all her experience and cleverness to win the decisive points and did not seem to be shaken by adversity to the same extent as the Dane.

The young Danish tennis player, who is number 23 in the world rankings, wasted a number of golden opportunites when the second set was to be decided in a tiebreak, and threw her racket on the court in frustration as Badosa managed to pull through and book her ticket for the next round where she is set to face Australian Open winner Madison Keys or the 19-year old Fillipino Alexandra Eala
