After a day of upsets in which Iga Swiatek was one of many big names to be knocked out of the Italian Open, the top players in action today including Carlos Alcaraz and Aryna Sabalenka will be out to restore parity.

22:48 CET - The second set would prove to be more comfortable for Carlos Alcaraz as he gets the job done against Laslo Djere, winning 7-6 (7-2), 6-2 and booking his place in the next round in Rome.

21:58 CET - Carlos Alcaraz was made to work for the first set by the impressive Laslo Djere after the world number three edged the tiebreak to take a 7-6 (7-2) lead.

Djere has since called a medical timeout as he is in some discomfort.

20:45 CET - Meanwhile, Qinwen Zheng has avoided such a shock exit with a dominant 6-3, 6-2 win against Poland's Magdalena Frech.

And just a few minutes ago, teenage sensation Mirra Andreeva also progressed in straight sets as she defeated Linda Noskova 6-1, 7-5.

20:40 CET - A few results to bring you before Carlos Alcaraz takes centre stage for the evening. 

First of all, Clara Tauson has produced another shock win against a top 10 player to knock out world number nine Emma Navarro

The Danish rising star responded brilliantly to losing the first set to win 3-6, 6-0, 6-4 and book her spot in the next round in Rome.

18:20 CET - Karen Khachanov is through to the last 16 in Rome as well after crushing Italian Francesco Passaro 6-3, 6-0.  

17:40 CET - Jack Draper's impressive form on tour continued this afternoon with a comfortable 6-4, 6-3 win against Czechia's Vit Kopriva to book his place in the next round in Rome.

17:00 CET - Holger Rune has been knocked out in Rome by Corentin Moutet. The Frenchman won their epic match 7-5, 5-7, 7-6 after almost four hours of play! The ninth seed, Rune, is the latest big name to fall.

Second seed Alexander Zverev has cruised through, meanwhile, beating Vilius Gaubas 6-4, 6-0 to advance to the last 16.

On the women's side, 11th seed Elena Rybakina has been knocked out by Bianca Andreescu, with the Canadian winning their clash 6-2, 6-4 to move into the last 16.

15:44 CET - In classic Emma Raducanu style, she has come from a set down to drop just one game in the next two sets and book her place in the next round in Rome. 

The British player beat Russian Veronika Kudermetova 5-7, 6-0, 6-1.

16:23 CET - Over on the men's side of the draw, Lorenzo Musetti has made no mistake to progress past Brandon Nakashima 6-4, 6-3.

15:17 CET - Coco Gauff has made no mistake in Rome as she secures her place in next week with a dominant 7-5, 6-3 win against Magda Linette.

13:19 CET - Aryna Sabalenka marches on! Last year's runner-up has fought back to beat Sofia Kenin 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 and advance to the round of 16, where she'll face Marta Kostyuk.

13:09 CET - Arthur Fils just loves playing Stefanos Tsitsipas! The 13th seed has beaten the 18th seed 2-6, 6-4, 6-2 with their H2H record now 4-0 in the Frenchman's favour.

12:44 CET - In the first results of the day, Daniil Medvedev has beaten Alexei Popyrin 6-4, 6-1 and Marta Kostyuk has claimed a 6-4, 6-2 win over Leylah Fernandez.
