The US Open is now in its 145th edition, and each day of the last Grand Slam of the season throws up unique stories and duels. The Flashscore editorial team has picked out three of the most interesting matches on Sunday's schedule.

Adrian Mannarino vs Jiri Lehecka

17:00 CET, Louis Armstrong Stadium.

Adrian Mannarino has played 60 Grand Slams and not been to the quarter-finals at any of them. But this year in New York, his sixty-first appearance at a major, he has an incredible chance of finally breaking that duck.

The 37-year-old Frenchman defied Ben Shelton for a long time and took their third-round clash to a fifth set. And when he returned to the court before the deciding set, he found that the young American had abandoned the match due to a shoulder injury.

"I'm 37 years old, and the first time I won a match was when I was in the toilet," said Mannarino.

Against Jiri Lehecka, Mannarino will once again be the underdog, but that has suited him well in recent months. So, Lehecka has to be aware.

Arthur Rinderknech vs Carlos Alcaraz

19:00 CET, Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Carlos Alcaraz entertained with a shaved head at the start of the US Open, but nothing has changed as far as his game is concerned. The young Spaniard is getting more and more confident as the rounds go by and you can see that he is desperate to claim the trophy again after three years.

In the fight to reach the quarter-finals, Alcaraz will try to make things difficult for reborn Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech, who managed to beat both Shelton and Alexander Zverev during the summer.

The two have met before at the US Open, with Rinderknech managing to take a set off Alcaraz in 2021. The Frenchman's strength is his return game; he managed to play 64 exchanges on his opponent's first serve and is the seventh best player in the tournament in this respect.

Elena Rybakina vs Marketa Vondrousova

03:00 CET, Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Two Wimbledon champions of recent years meet in the fourth round. Elena Rybakina won the grass-court major in 2022; Marketa Vondrousova last year. And when it comes to playing on outdoor hard courts, both players have the perfect disposition for it.

While Rybakina has never made it beyond the second week in New York until this year, her impressive record this summer makes her one of the tournament favourites. After all, she has played 16 matches since the start of the American swing and lost only three.

Vondrousova may have been a little sparing in her preparation, but the scalps of both McCartney Kessler and Jasmine Paolini are a significant message. Interestingly, it's 1-1 from their previous meetings.
