Czech world No 21, Tomas Machac, says that he was forced to threaten the referee with having an "accident in his pants" before he was allowed to change clothes in yesterday's defeat against August Holmgren.

Immediately after the end of the fourth set, where Machac squandered four set points, he asked the referee if he could go and change his clothes, but his request was immediately denied.

"I was really surprised by that. Because I hadn't done it during the match. I don't know what the rules are. But if you play for four and a half hours, you usually can change your clothes", says Machac to eb.dk.

Machac subsequently ended up in a heated argument with the referee.

"I asked him if I would be allowed to change if I had an 'accident in my pants."

"I don't think he should have this job because I feel like saying he didn't think. Otherwise, it makes no sense for him to argue that you can't change clothes when you haven't done so earlier in the match."

Later, a supervisor intervened and continued the discussion with Machac.

"She said I could change, but I had to do it on time. I was allowed to do it in the tunnel, where there are spectators walking around, and then they would hold a towel up in front of me. I thought 'Okay, and this is Wimbledon? Nice," said Machac sarcastically.

"These people shouldn't have this job, because they have no brains. They're like machines. How is it possible that they're in that position? We play for four and a half hours, and then there are people trying to tell you what you should do."

Machac lost the match to Holmgren in five sets: 6-7, 7-6, 7-6, 5-7, 6-7.
