Denmark are just one win from getting four players into the main draw of Wimbledon for the first time ever after August Holmgren on Wednesday afternoon recorded his second win in the qualification for the Grand Slam tournament.

August Holmgren is just one win away from securing his participation in the main tournament at this year's Wimbledon, which will also be his grand slam debut.

On Wednesday, he won his second match in the qualifying tournament in south London, where he recorded a surprise win by defeating Mikhail Kukushkin from Kazakhstan in three sets.

Kukushkin won the first set, but Holmgren fought back and won 4-6, 7-6, 6-2.

The 27-year-old Holmgren used exactly the same recipe as when he beat Briton Giles Hussey in the first round where he was also down a set and a break before turning the match upside down.

Kukushkin led 3-1 in the second set before Holmgren got going. He broke back to 3-3 and restored parity by winning the set tiebreak 7-4.

In the third set there was never any doubt about the outcome. Holmgren broke in the first service game and was superb in his own serve,  losing only three points in four games.

Holmgren broke again to lead 5-2 before serving the game home in emphatic style.

Holmgren is ranked 195 in the world, while Kukushkin is ranked 190, but the player from Kazakhstan, who earlier in his career was ranked 39,  was still considered a clear favorite due to his previous accomplishments on grass.

In the best-of-five qualifying final, Holmgren will face Japan's Yosuke Watanuki, ranked 179 in the world. This will be their first meeting on the ATP Tour.

Holmgren could become the fourth Danish participant in this year's Wimbledon, with Holger Rune, Elmer Moller and Clara Tauson having already booked their ticket for the Grand Slam tournament.
