Texas Tech's Jacob Rodriguez wins Defensive Player of the Year Award

Texas Tech linebacker Jacob Rodriguez won the 2025 Chuck Bednarik Award for the top defensive player in the nation on Friday.

Rodriguez finished the season with 114 tackles, seven forced fumbles, six pass deflections, four interceptions, and one sack, also earning himself the 2025 Bronko Nagurski Award for Most Outstanding Defensive Player. 

The stud out of Texas Tech also finished his Senior season with First-Team All-American honours as he helped lead his Red Raiders to their first-ever Big 12 Conference Championship

It's now back-to-back seasons for Rodriguez with at least 110 tackles. In 2024, he finished with 127, along with five sacks, four pass deflections, and three forced fumbles. 

Rodriguez has not officially declared for the upcoming 2026 NFL Draft, but is projected as a second to third-round pick.

Texas Tech currently holds the No. 4 seed in the College Football Playoffs and will face the winner of (#12) James Madison and (#5) Oregon.
